11/19/23 Who is God? God is Holy and Always Good

11/18/2023

Watch this Week's Message
ICEBREAKERS
  1. What is the most morally good thing anyone has ever done for you or by someone that you can recall?
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
GOD IS HOLY
  1. Read Isaiah 6:1-6.
    1. What comes to your mind when you hear the word “holy”?
    2. How is holiness rooted in an understanding of God’s character? How is God’s holiness both good and dangerous at the same time?
    3. What does this vision reveal about God’s intent toward and desire for people who are unclean like Isaiah?
    4. How does this help you understand the importance of the kind of people God wants us to be?
  2. Read Habakkuk 1:13. What does it mean that God's eyes are too pure to look upon evil?
  3. Read 1 Peter 2:1-10.
    1. How does the holiness of God and the church come together?
    2. What does this reveal about God’s holiness?
    3. How does this raise the bar of holiness for a follower of Jesus?
  4. Read Job 13:13-19.
    1. Why does Job say "though he slay me, yet will I hope in him."
    2. What does Job's defense of God and his own innocence teach us about our own experience of suffering and its relationship to God?
PRAYER
Take time to ask everyone in your group if they have any prayer requests. Then for prayer, first take turns praising God for his holiness, for his moral purity, for his righteousness and justice, and for his goodness. Then pray for each other.

About Us
First Covenant Church is part of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC), which is a rapidly growing multi-ethnic denomination in the United States and Canada, with ministries on five continents of the world. Founded in 1885 by Swedish immigrants, the ECC values the Bible as the word of God, the gift of God's grace, and an ever-deepening spiritual life that comes through faith with Jesus Christ. We value the importance of extending God's love and compassion to a hurting world, and the strength that comes from unity within diversity.
