When you put your faith in Jesus, God begins strengthening your spiritual core with a better, healthier identity—one that's defined by God rather than the world. As you allow God to fill you with the knowledge of his will for you, your spiritual core grows stronger and healthier and is able to withstand the strains and troubles of life, resist the temptations that bring you down, and live the beautiful life that God intended for you.
This is a 9-week series of teachings, bible readings, and group discussions that will help you rebuild your spiritual core as a "chosen and changed child of God." |

God knows you—the real you. God sees you—everything you've done. God hears you—your worries and your cries. God understands you—why you do what you do and why you think the way you think. You are fully known by God, and guess what … he still accepts you. Do you know yourself? Do you accept yourself?
When we know that we’re known and accepted by God, we can begin to accept ourselves. |

Your experiences in life do not define the love God has for you.
Your poverty, your weakness, your doubt, your reputation, your successes, your failures, your battles, your health, your skin color, your gender, your orientation, your messy life, your past decisions, your current problems. None of them can ever defeat nor define God’s love for you. Stop letting your experiences define who you are. Start defining your experiences by who you know you are. |
|
How you live can only follow your strongest belief. If you believe you’re only a sinner, you’ll never break free from the sin that entraps you. If you believe that you’re unforgivable, you’ll never live in the freedom of forgiveness. If you believe that you’ll always be this way, you’ll never see the new you that God has created.
When we believe that God has changed us, that change will begin to shape us. |
|
In Christ, you are free from slavery to sin. You are free from shame and guilt. You are no longer obligated to the sinful flesh. What does it take to not sin? Vulnerability. Identifying your garbage beliefs and replacing them with truth. Choosing to ask for help overcoming your bad habits.
Stop telling yourself, “I’m just a sinner.” Start telling yourself, “I’m a saint.” Stop telling yourself, “I’m unforgivable.” Start telling yourself, “I am forgiven.” Stop telling yourself “I have to do better.” Start telling yourself, “I am better.” |

We all have labels that we use to define ourselves. We tend to rely on our labels to define us—even the negative ones. The problem is that these labels begin to blind us to who we really are. God wants to look past these labels and live out of the one label that really matters—you are a Child of God.
Don't believe the lies. You are not your labels. You are a Child of God |
|
As a Christian, you are no longer governed by the ways our world—its politics, its culture, its labels, its economy, its morals. The principles of God's Kingdom transcend the principles of any country. The commands of Christ carry far more weight than any demands of the world. The One-Anothers of the Kingdom are far more valuable than the Bill of Rights.
As a Christian, you now are a Citizen of Heaven. |

All you see is a mess. But God can make you a message of triumph and victory. All you see is the test but God sees a testament to what Christ can do in your life. When you're down to nothing, always remember that God is up to something. While you may feel broken, God says you are chosen to be his ambassador to the world. God chooses you to help others come back to God by serving them and telling them about Jesus.
Go be and bring Jesus to others. |
|
As a Christian, you have been given the power and presence of the Holy Spirit to strengthen you, to help you endure, to persevere, and to rise above the challenges you face. We're not just comforted by the Spirit. We are made strong by the Spirit. who guides us and equips us to do every good work in our lives. So no matter what we face, no matter how weak we find ourselves, we are strong in Christ.
When you are weak, Christ makes you strong |
|
We all feel like we’re not talented enough, not gifted enough, not equipped enough. But as a Christian, you are gifted by the Holy Spirit. And whatever that gift is, you are to use it for the sake of others. Your talent is not your own. Your gift is not your own. A gift is not a gift until it's given to someone else.
You are gifted. Now give it away. |
About Us
First Covenant Church is part of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC), which is a rapidly growing multi-ethnic denomination in the United States and Canada, with ministries on five continents of the world. Founded in 1885 by Swedish immigrants, the ECC values the Bible as the word of God, the gift of God's grace, and an ever-deepening spiritual life that comes through faith with Jesus Christ. We value the importance of extending God's love and compassion to a hurting world, and the strength that comes from unity within diversity. |
