WHY EASTER?
Easter marks the day of Jesus' resurrection from the grave. We celebrate it because how amazing is it that Jesus rose from the dead?! It really happened and faith in Jesus can change your life, too! Some claim that Easter is rooted in ancient pagan holidays. While the timing may be similar as other ancient celebrations and some elements such as bunnies and eggs have become associated with it (which of course makes it fun for our kids!), the only ancient holiday in which Easter has its roots is the Jewish Passover which was the Last Supper Jesus had with his disciples. Furthermore, Easter gets its name from the Old High German translation of the word "dawn" (eostarum) in Matthew 28:1 which was the moment when the women discovered the tomb was empty.
Matthew 28:1-7
"After the Sabbath, at DAWN on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

GOOD FRIDAY SERVICEFriday, April 7, 6:00PM
You're invited to a deep, rich, contemplative experience as we reflect on Christ's Crucifixion and the Hope of the Cross, share in Holy Communion, and experience the Service of Tenebrae—a sequence of scripture readings recalling Jesus' last week along with music and the gradual extinguishment of the candles and lighting. This hour together will end in silence as we return to our homes reflecting on the sacrifice of our Lord. There will be no Nursery provided during this service. Families with young children are welcome to use the Family Room available with a glass wall to the Sanctuary. |
Palm SundaySunday, April 2, 8:30 & 10:00AM
This day marks the day Jesus entered into Jerusalem with everyone praising him, shouting, "Hosanna, in the Highest!" They were so excited with great hope that Jesus would be their King. They were hoping for a political king that would secure their nation's independence from the Romans. But the Kingdom that Jesus brought was and is so much greater than any nation would ever be. You're invited to find the Hope we have in Jesus that restores God's vision for you and your life. Our kids will celebrate with us with palm branches during the 10:00 service and guest speaker Kara Stromberg, Superintendent of the Northwest Conference of Covenant churches will inspire us with hope in Jesus, our King! |
