May 11, 2025 - Mothers Day

5/11/2025

Strength for the Weary

Icebreaker
What’s the most tired you’ve ever been? (Bonus points if it involved falling asleep in an awkward place, forgetting what day it was, or accidentally putting the milk in the pantry.)

Study Questions
Feeling Overwhelmed & Weary
  1. Jesus invites us to bring our burdens to Him. What are some practical ways we can do this in our daily lives?
  2. Read Matthew 11:28-30. How can those who are not mothers encourage or support the mothers in their community?
Comparison & Societal Pressures
  1. In what ways do you see unrealistic expectations placed on mothers today?
  2. Read Galatians 1:10. How does seeking God’s approval instead of people’s approval bring freedom?
Worry & Anxiety About Children
  1. Worry can feel overwhelming, especially when thinking about loved ones. What are some ways we can replace anxiety with trust in God?
  2. Read Philippians 4:6-7. How has prayer helped you during a season of uncertainty?
Lack of Support & Loneliness
  1. Why do you think so many people (not just mothers) struggle with loneliness today?
  2. Read Ecclesiastes 4:9-10. What are some ways the church community can better support and encourage one another?
Feeling Spiritually Dry
  1. Jesus calls us to stay connected to Him like branches to a vine. What practices have helped you stay spiritually nourished during busy or exhausting seasons?
  2. Read John 15:5. How can we encourage one another to prioritize time with God, even in the midst of life’s demands?

Application Questions

  1. Which of these challenges resonated with you or the mothers you know the most, and why?
  2. Think of a mother or caregiver in your life. What is one way you can encourage or support them this week?
  3. What is one practical step you can take this week to find rest in God and let go of unnecessary burdens?

Prayer

Spend time praying for those who are weary—whether it’s from parenting, caregiving, grief, burnout, or life’s burdens. Ask God to renew their strength and help them feel His presence in a tangible way. Take time to pray for each other’s needs.

About Us
First Covenant Church is part of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC), which is a rapidly growing multi-ethnic denomination in the United States and Canada, with ministries on five continents of the world. Founded in 1885 by Swedish immigrants, the ECC values the Bible as the word of God, the gift of God's grace, and an ever-deepening spiritual life that comes through faith with Jesus Christ. We value the importance of extending God's love and compassion to a hurting world, and the strength that comes from unity within diversity.
